Place Visited: A two-story, single-residence home, dating back to the early 1930’s, in Milford, Michigan
Date of Investigation: February 2000
Harry was trying to survive what was quite possibly the most traumatic event of his life. His wife, whom he would divorce in the near future, was abusing drugs and alcohol. Her habit went beyond occasional recreational use, and she was finding, shall we say, creative ways to feed her habit. For his part, Harry had tried almost every intervention available and was hanging on the frayed ends of the proverbial rope by his fingernails.
Harry recalls how one night he confronted his wife with her errant ways, spelling out the disastrous direction their relationship was headed if she continued to refuse help. For the first time in months, she actually began to break down and share her horror with him.
It was really pitiful to watch. Her eyes were distant and her skin was sallow. She had lost a great deal of weight, and it was clear she was totally exhausted. But even so, she refused to let go of her addiction. I spoke to her about how the drugs would most likely kill her someday, but she was too hooked to give them up. She did, however, open up and begin to tell me about a recurring vision she would have, in which she could see down into what she calls the “sewers of hell” and a shrouded, demonic figure would appear to her. She said she would see it more and more as her drug asage escalated. She was terrified of it but felt powerless to make it go away.
As they sat in the living room of their home, sharing a last, lost conversation, Harry began to sense a change in the room itself. It grew shadowy, as though a gray pall had descended upon them. Perhaps its best at this point to let Harry, an articulate and well-educated professional man, describe what happened next.
My ex was seated on the living room sofa, and I was seated across the room from her in my recliner. Between us and off to my right was the doorway leading outside. To my left, and next to the sofa, turned to an angle, where she could not see it, was the television set. As she spoke of her nightmarsh visions, the room began to darken. I remember my skin beginning to tingle, like some sort of low-level electrical charge was passing by me. Then, as she continued to speak in an almost trance-like state, I saw the reflection of some sort of entity begin to slowly spread across the glass of the darkened television screen.
All I saw was the reflection of the entity, not the entity itself. The face was featureless, shrouded in shadow by a hood it wore. Only the eyes were distinguishable. The eyes were yellow and set wide apart and very hypnotic in nature. The more my ex detailed her nightly descent into the sewers of her drug-induced dreams, the more clear the apparition appeared on the screen. From her vantage point she was not able to see the reflection, although she may have been able to see it directly, which I could not. At one point, I moved up in my chair to wave my hand in front of the television, to see if my hand could be reflected on the screen, it could not. Furthermore, my hand did not interfere in any way with the reflection of this demonic figure.
The eyes were its method of communication. As I sat transfixed by them, the glimpse of evil, death, terror, sickness, and doom was horrifying. Yet I could not turn away from it. The question yet unresolved for me is, was I looking at its soul, at her soul, or my own soul? After the reflection left, she described this shrouded demon as the central character in her vision. I felt as though her living hell was soon to envelop me as well.
Not long after this demonic encounter, Harry left his wife and filed for divorce. He maintains he has never been so frightened of losing his soul as he was on that single evening in Milford. He simply cannot comprehend anyone slipping as deeply into the bowels of self-destruction and evil as his wife had. To this day, the memory of that horrific night still spawns nightmares that irrupt in his sleep.
Harry’s ex-wife still resides in the home they once shared. Harry has had no contact with her to determine if the demonic figure is still present in her life.
